She’s known for organizing card games, group holodeck programs, and the occasional friendly competition to keep morale high. Among the crew, she’s jokingly regarded as the ship’s "unofficial bookie," managing small wagers and side bets with fairness and a meticulous ledger that would make any quartermaster proud. Her weekly Thursday poker night is a standing tradition--equal parts stress relief and camaraderie--where credits, stories, and pride change hands in equal measure. In quieter moments, Vashti sings and dances--her singing voice is objectively considered beautiful and near-flawless. |
| Personal History | Vashti was born in the temple town of Udupi in the Karnataka state of Earth's India, 2361. She grew up surrounded by a blend of classical learning, engineering curiosity, and an expectation of excellence. The Rao family valued intellect, self-discipline, and tangible results--and Vashti inherited all three in spades. She could take apart and rebuild a comm unit by eleven, and by fourteen she was assisting with electrical systems at the local port. At the age of 13, Vashti attended Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Academy in Ootacamund, India--a boarding school for girls with an interest in mathematics, science, and technology. There, she excelled in her studies and was expected to continue her education at a high institution following her graduation from the school in 2379, but her desire to use her hands brought her elsewhere. Rejecting pressure to pursue a "more prestigious" academic career in astrophysics, she enlisted in Starfleet instead, obviously drawn to starship engineering. She worked her way up the enlisted ranks with grit and attention to detail, earning a reputation as someone who gets the job done--and doesn't tolerate incompetence, excuses, or unnecessary chatter. She's all business on-duty, her incredibly long hair tied back and a razor-straight posture. Off-hours, she's known to relax, gamble and dance. |
