The Sim

The USS Astrea is collaborative writing (simming) game that rolled out our first posts in January of 2024. The vision that your Commanding Officer, Nicole (aka Remy Johansen), had for creating this simming experience was to have a place where the crew and fellow players could feel like they were as much of a part of the creation process as the command team. We were made a 2024 Simming Prize laureate. Our nominator stated about Astrea: An outstanding simm in all respects with excellence in both story and characters, the USS Astrea has stayed true to the Trek universe while also pushing creative boundaries for players to explore new ideas collaboratively.

May this vision always be lived out in our writing, and I hope that all of the writers here always feel free to contribute to the story in new and creative directions.

Player input and feedback is encouraged at all times. Our missions are structured so that everyone can be as involved as they want to be. This is not a sim where the Captain or First Officer are always the heroes. In fact, I would rather set up any number of a combination of the crew outside of myself to be in the spotlight for an important scene, save the day, or have the winning solution. While missions are planned, they are not scripted. As the action unfolds, creativity is encouraged by you, the writer, to contribute to the action and use your own creativity. Contingency plans can always be written up if we take a divergent turn, and your game managers are just a message away if you have an idea but are unsure.

Ultimately, we want you to HAVE FUN! And we think the best way for you to do that is to see our missions merely as a prompt, and to feel free to let the story flow. If you have ideas, you are just as much of a creator as anyone on the game management team.

The USS Astrea also has a few special places for mission development including a place for you to write your character's backstory and a place for you to develop an adversary for our crew and write up their stories as well. We have a fun and friendly crew, and are welcoming of experienced and new simmers alike. We have been steadily active because our players enjoy writing together and building their stories.
