Lakyn also developed a passion for animals like horses and dogs early in life. There were cultural aspects of his upbringing and training. Lakyn was Native American Cherokee. Tragedy occurred when Lakyn was 15. His father, a security guard at a transport hub in a nearby town, was killed while on his beat. It was a revenge killing from those who did not like Starfleet. That traumatic moment inflicted on him and his mother with a deep trauma. However, it gave Lakyn the motivation to do something, to make a difference. That was when Lakyn knew Starfleet was the calling he needed. It was a path that would lead him to gain the expertise and authority to prevent similar tragedies. After his father's death, Lakyn's mother went into deep isolation. She was broken by her husband's death. Focusing on her work, she withdrew and spent long periods in silence. Lakyn attempted to connect with her but had little luck. He also withdrew himself. He grew very self sufficient and independent, taking comfort in the nature around him, as well as the animals he loved. Despite his excellent skills and achievements, both academically, and in his role as a pilot, including an awesome moment saving a classmate during a fire in high school, Lakyn's stubbornness and risk-taking behavior sometimes put him at odds with his superiors. He lives with his pet dog Midnight, an all black Labrador, he confides and finds companionship. He is a skilled and resilient Starfleet officer known for his expertise in reconnaissance, counter sniper operations, and extreme survival skills often pushing boundaries in all senses. | Personal History | Lakyn was born and raised on a small ranch near the Thunder Basin Grasslands in north eastern Wyoming on Earth. Lakyn’s father, Michael, was a Starfleet Security officer stationed at a nearby transport over in the next town. His mother, Sarah, was a botanist assigned to the nearby university. Growing up in Wyoming, Lakyn developed a deep connection to nature. His father often took him on long hunting trips, teaching a variety of survival skills such as patience, discipline, and hunting. It was also a cultural awakening as his father instilled in him the way of their people who occupied the land for thousands of years. Lakyn also developed a love for animals, particularly horses and dogs. He had several of them at his home. His bond with these animals became a source of comfort for him, especially after the trauma he would face in his teenage years. When Lakyn was just 15 years old, tragedy struck. While his father was on a beat he was struck down because of a vendetta. That traumatic event left a deep emotional scar on him and his mother. From that moment onward, he knew Starfleet would be his calling. It was a path that would give him the skills and authority to prevent similar tragedies. Lakyn's mother isolated herself. She couldn't survive the weight of her husband's death and the loneliness that came with it. Lakyn attempted connect with her again but was not successful. He too also became isolated and grew very independent and self-reliant. In high school, he was able to gain an outlet by participating in sports, clubs and activities. He excelled as a star in physical education and outdoor courses. He excelled in subjects like history and biology, especially when lessons turned to military strategy and survival techniques. But abstract courses such as math and science were a challenge. They were hard to get interested in since they didn't have a real applicability in his life. But his teachers appreciated his work ethic and keeping on top of assignments and challenges. Lakyn’s reputation for bravery and leadership was shown when a fire broke out during a school event. Most students evacuated quickly, but one classmate was trapped. Without hesitation, Lakyn risked his own safety to find and rescue the student. The incident earned the respect of both his peers and teachers. He attended Starfleet Academy after finishing high school, and followed a pilot track, focusing on the Starfighters. Lakyn sometimes has an inclination to take risks outside of mission parameters. This has led to some reprimands. However, his effectiveness in the field, his ability to complete missions with accuracy, and his almost perfect Starfleet record, allowed his command officers give him the benefit of the dought and allowed him to keep his service record clean. |
