Mission: Maintenance and Recovery
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: November 6th, 1800 hrs

Given her becoming part of Xalanth’s family, and her recent love making with Xalanth Kah’lyn decided to check in with Jezra. She needed to be sure her combined genetics wouldn’t cause any issues if she had indeed conceived as Xalanth expected she would. Walking into Sickbay she paused waiting to see if anyone was actually in.

Jezra found that the past hosts usually had some memorable phrase or moment. She suspected her was: "don't take a telepathic weapon to the face." It left her with a lot to do, even after Alex's time as acting CMO. The work was a bunch of crew checkups that happened to be due at the same time.

She was just about to call her next patient to drag their asses into sickbay when her computer alerted. Even if her office door was shut, the computer still alerted when the main doors opened. Nobody was yelling, which was a good sign, so she quickly finished sending off the request for an Ensign Zera to visit sickbay before heading out. Jezra put on a smile when she saw the new counselor, having recognised her from the beaches of Barisa Prime. "Ah, counselor! Chiara, right? What can I do for you?"

Kah’lyn smiled warmly. “That’s right but please call me Kah’lyn. Actually I came to…” she paused wondering how best to word it. “This is going to sound odd as I just got here, but I need a check up to see if there’ll be any problem with my having a Dragonian child.”

Jezra chuckled as she gestured to a biobed. "I suppose in our professions, one has to expect odd."

Kah’lyn smiled. “My sister wife T’Para works in medical but I didn’t want to be swamping her with questions. It seems Dragonian dna bonds ruthlessly well with other species, and seeing as I wasn’t on birth control it would appear last night could have consequences. Not that I’m complaining or anything it was my choice.”

With a nod, Jezra listened as she grabbed a tricorder. "You'll have to forgive me as I catch up on your medical file," she began as she typed into a PADD. "I was only recently cleared for active duty again, and am still catching up on the personnel changes."

“That’s okay.” Kah’lyn smiled. “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but were you ill?”

A faint snort escaped Jezra as she glanced up from the PADD. "More like comatose for a few days. Telepathic attack, though I'd rather have been ill." Content with the information from Kah’lyn's medical file, the Trill approached with the tricorder and moved the scanning wand steadily down her body. "The investigation still hasn't uncovered why I was targeted, but there's no lasting damage as far as Dr. Blackstone and I can tell." She wasn't certain if the isoboramine instability counted as something that would last, but it seemed neither appropriate or important to mention.

“I’m sorry to hear that” Kah’lyn gave Jezra a caring look. “If you need to talk anytime please feel free to call or drop in to see me. Being a telepath I understand the dangers of such an attack, it’s not something anyone should experience.”

Jezra's response was an expression that easily read as "you're telling me" as she continued to scan. "Thank you, you'll be the first one I call," she replied verbally with an acknowledging smile. The appointment wasn't about Jezra, though. She read the results of the scan. "From what I know of Dragonian genetics, their DNA is incredibly adaptable to other species. I remember having a thought about how it's more universal than universal blood." Jezra offered a chuckle to that. "Even with your Betazoid and Romulan genetics, I don't think it will be a problem, but I also haven't done multi-species obstetrics in a long time, so I have my homework laid out for me." The scanning wand hovered for an extra second over Kah’lyn's abdomen before Jezra was content enough to return it into its slot in the tricorder and set it aside. "Unless you start experiencing anything abnormal, I see no reason for medical interference. You're perfectly healthy."

Kah’lyn nodded. “That’s good to know, T’para warned me that I’ll experience symptoms early on so I’ll see what happens. If I need you I’ll know where to come.”

"That's reasonable, given Dragonian genetics tend to shorten the gestation period. At the moment, my best guess is earlier symptoms but also potentially more intense." Over the course of a couple seconds, Jezra's lips curled into a smirk. She was thrilled to practice this kind of medicine again. "Unless you have objections, I think having T'Para as part of your care team would be a great choice. In the time I've worked with her, she has been exemplary."

Kah’lyn nodded. “I have no objections, I think it would be a wonderful idea. We all live together so it’ll help if I’m having any problems.”

"Excellent. Now, I didn't see anything specific in your file, but I did want to check if you've had any prior pregnancies?" Jezra asked.

Kah’lyn shook her head. “No.”

Jezra nodded to the response. "Any family history of complications during pregnancy?"

“I’m afraid I have no idea.” Kah’lyn shrugged her shoulders. “I know nothing of my birth parents, I was found in the wreckage of a downed ship when I was a few months old. I was raised by a Betazoid mother, one of the Starfleet crew that found me.”

Jezra gave Kah’lyn a sympathetic but understanding look. "That's alright. It just means we'll be more vigilant."

Kah’lyn nodded. “I don’t know what effects pregnancy hormones have on the body, but I do have quite the temper when I get annoyed. I usually just take it out on holographic enemies with my bat’leth, but I guess I’ll need to be more careful when I do.”

"I'm sure between T’Para and I, we'll be able to keep any hormonal swings in check," the Trill replied with a chuckle. She took in a breath and briefly pulsed her arms away from her sides. "Well! I think the only thing left to do is offer congratulations."

“Thank you very much” Kah’lyn grinned. “I guess I’ll see you…err, when will I need to come back and see either you or T’para?”

Jezra thought for a couple seconds, and in the meantime she stepped aside so Kah’lyn could get off the biobed. "Unless there's complications or an impairing symptom, I think a regular prenatal schedule is appropriate. Given the accelerated gestation period, let's start with every 3 weeks and see how it goes. I can draft a schedule and have it sent to you." Jezra's own grin widened, "but you can visit me any time you like. You can probably feel how much I'm restraining my own excitement."

Kah’lyn nodded. “You’re not the only one who’s excited! I never imagined I’d arrive here and find not only a husband but have a baby too!” She grinned. “I’ll make sure I keep the schedule safe.”

"You have certainly hit a lucky streak," Jezra commented. Then, she remembered something. "Before I forget, do you want to tell T'Para, or do you want me to?"

“Feel free to let her know” Kah’lyn smiled. “I won’t see her until after shift anyway.”

The Trill grinned in response. She would of course let them break the news to Xalanth, but at least she and T'Para could get a head start on planning appointments. "Done. Anything else I can do for you today?"

“No, I think that’s it, thank you.” Kah’lyn smiled warmly.
