Maintenance and Recovery
Location: Various
Timeline: Nov 7th, Early morning
Xalanth was in his happy place as he stared at the ceiling. His mates were tucked up against him the heat of their bodies flooding his cold blood.
Kah'lyn his latest was resting on his chest sleeping peacefully. T'para and Leiliani were pressed against his right side with Fulvia on his left.
He could stay like this for hours, but his newest mate had an important date ahead of her. It was her first Kandact session.
Gently running his fingers along her face, he smiled as she tried to wake. “Hello my beloved how are you?" He said softly, trying not to wake anyone else.
Kah’lyn offered a sleepy smile as she opened her eyes and looked at Xalanth. “Good morning to you too. I’m okay, is it time to get up already?”
"It is. Time for your first Kandact session. Wear some comfortable gym clothes," he said with a warm smile on his face.
Kah’lyn nodded and stretched, she’d been looking forward to this Kandact session with Xalanth. “Okay, I won’t be long.” A few minutes later she reappeared from her room wearing a sleeveless top and shorts. “I’m ready to go when you are.”
Xalanth had made sure the rest of his mates and daughters were still asleep before changing into his athletic uniform. Picking up a box from one of the room's tables, he gestured for his newest mate to sit. " Just need to add the ribbons."
“Ribbons?” Kah’lyn asked curiously. “Do they signify something?”
"A kandact is best to three. The ribbons are used to keep score," Xalanth explained.
“Okay, so an easy score system,” Kah’lyn smiled. “I’m looking forward to learning more.”
Xalanth nodded and began tying the ribbon around his mate's arm. The knot was slightly loose but clearly firm. He then did the same with himself. "Come." He said softly as he offered her his hand.
Taking Xalanth’s hand Kah’lyn gave him a warm smile. “Don’t go too easy on me okay?”
"I won't." He replied with a smile of his own as he led the way out of the quarters and towards the turbo lift. "How are you finding the sleeping arrangements?" he inquired.
“They’re okay, unusual but I’m not complaining.” Kah’lyn smiled warmly. “Plus I still have my own room if I want some time alone.”
"Soon you'll be wondering how you ever slept beforehand." Xalanth replied with a grin as he stepped into the turbo lift before calling out "gym." To which the lift sped off.
“Yeah I guess I will.” Kah’lyn grinned. “I always felt like there was something important missing, now I know what it was. I was meant to be here with you.”
Xalanth grinned and pulled her softly into a quick hug. As the turbolift reached its destination, he stepped out and led his mate to the gym. " You have questions?" He inquired, knowing she would.
“Oh about a million of them” Kah’lyn smiled. “I know this isn’t what I’d consider to be a sparring session, let’s start with you telling me all about kandact. I know the best way to learn is to try so that’s what I’ll do.”
"It means a breath of clean air on the wind in my people's tongue," Xalanth responded as he took a position on one of the mat. "The goal is to help two parts of the soul work out any stress that has built up over the week. The goal is simple: whoever manages to put their opponent on the floor three times wins the bout."
“I’m supposed to be able to floor you?” Kah’lyn gave Xalanth a look up and down. “I don’t think I stand a chance against your strength compared to mine.”
"You will someday. " Xalanth replied calmly and friendly. "I train all my girls to be the best i can make them. In the meantime, we'll keep it at removing the ribbons." He said gesturing to his arm.
Kah’lyn nodded. “A good idea and precaution for the time being.” She smiled. “Then what about instructors at the academy used to moan at me for not having enough confidence in hand to hand. Now give me a bat’leth and it’s a different matter.” She grinned. “Besides I wouldn’t want to hurt you.”
"Me neither, my soul. For now let try your best to hit me, and we will see where we need to start." Xalanth replied dropping into one of the fleet's hand to hand defensive positions.
Kah’lyn nodded also taking up the necessary posture, she took a moment to weigh up her opponent before setting about her move. Making it look as though she was going to go to his left she swung to his right at the last moment hoping to catch him off balance.
Xalanth easily blocked her feint as softly as he could. He did always feared hurting his mates, and this was Kah'lyn's first time. Assuring she wasn't hurt, he brought his free arm round. His middle finger had a small cap with a marker on it. Gently tapping her skin, he left a few marks upon her skin. " Now what have i done here?" He asked, releasing her arm.
“It looks like you got me” Kah’lyn added. She had started off slow at the Academy but had eventually proven herself worthy of her hand to hand class. “I wasn’t sure exactly how was best to attack, though I guess a stressful day would change that especially when frustrations are high.”
"It was a good feint, but someone like em can easily see it. Your body is also a weapon, and it can be damaged just as easily as it can attack. " Xalanth explained.
Kah’lyn nodded. “How’s about you attack me, maybe that will be better for me to practice?”
Xalanth nodded and returned to his position, making himself ready. When Kah'lyn was ready, he surged forward, aiming to sweep her legs.
Kah’lyn had to think quickly watching Xalanth’s moves, as he came close enough to sweep her off her feet she quickly leapt up into the air to using Xalanth’s body to lean on as she jumped out of the way giving him a push as she did so.
Xalanth smiled as she used him as a platform to propel herself up in the air. Wheeling around with the speed of his kind, he managed to get behind her and launch another flurry of blows, each one aimed to allow her to miss. Pulling back, he grinned as he revealed he had one of her ribbons.
“Damn it!” Kah’lyn shook her head as she saw the ribbon in Xalanth’s hand. “I was so busy focusing on getting out of the way I forgot to aim for a ribbon!” She stood ready. “Come and get me!”
Xalanth grinned and charged forward leaping forward as he did so.
Kah’lyn set her sights on getting a ribbon, she was good at gymnastics so she put that to use waiting for Xalanth to get within range before using his own body against him as her springboard to getting a ribbon off of his arm. Her dismount left a lot to be desired though as she hit the floor with a winded thud leaving her open to easy attack.
Which Xalanth went for. Bringing the hand with the marker around, he drew a line along her thigh as his other hand reached for another ribbon.
That was what Kah’lyn was waiting for, grabbing onto his arm she used her feet to her advantage grabbing one of his ribbons and holding on as she tried to push him off balance whilst pulling the ribbon off.
Xalanth smiled. Kah'lyn was far better at this than he first believed. Letting her take one of his own ribbons in his own hands reached and gripped another of her's. With a gentle tug in came lose leaving him with two. " Having fun Kah'lyn." He smirked from the floor.
Kah'lyn grinned as she paused to look down at Xalanth. “Most definitely! Though my mind could be swayed to other things, just not here in the gym.” She grinned a wry grin. “Besides I still have ribbons to collect.”
Xalanth replied with a grin of his own. As Kah'lyn sidled off of him, he gave her an affectionate pat on the ass. "It's two to one." He reminded her as he took another defensive position. "Come my fifth, show me what you can do."
Kah’lyn gave a big smile as she decided to go for a whole different course. Instead of taking up a defensive stance she unzipped her lightweight top and took it off, leaving her sleeveless top underneath. Maybe she could use her feminine wiles to distract long enough to get another ribbon off Xalanth. She took a moment to take up her stance again, then motioned Xalanth to attack. “Come and get me if you can.”
Xalanth yellow eyes did stare at his new mate's assets for far longer than he'd ever admit. They did have that effect on him. Even still, he ran forward and began engaging her with a series of blows.
Kah’lyn managed to block some of the blows, noting that Xalanth was paying more attention to her low top she took the opportunity to reach her one hand for a ribbon by grabbing his arm, placing her back against his chest and wrapping his arm around resting it purposely on her chest. She wasn’t sure if she’d have the strength to try tossing him over her body without doing herself a mischief in the process so instead she rolled aiming to take him down sideways with her.
Xalanth rolled with her, ending up on his side. His free hand reached up and grabbed her arm, reaching for his ribbons. "Clever girl. Amazing how all of my beloveds come up with the tactic." he said softly into her ear.
“Dammit! I thought I had that one.” She gave him a wry smile. “You really have seen all this before haven’t you?”
"My darling souls think the same. You all know how I enjoy your feminine wiles." He replied softly as his legs wrapped around hers, holding her tightly. Gently leaning into her head, he gave her ear a softly playful nibble. "Ready to surrender?" he asked softly.
Kah’lyn’s defences were slowly going down, her love for Xalanth was rapidly taking its place. “I just might especially if you keep that up!” She grinned.
Xalanth continued his playful nibbling before he began rubbing his head against hers affectionately. He still didn't realise his grip.
“Do you think I’m going to try and escape Imzadi?” Kah’lyn asked with her arms held down she couldn’t encourage him, or hold him if she wanted to. “There’s being restrained, and there’s being restrained” she gave him a wry smile before kissing him.
Xalanth continued gently nibbling her ear, but he did realise his grip on her legs.
Kah’lyn smiled as she utilised the freedom wrapping her legs around Xalanth in encouragement. “Is this how all the sparring sessions end?”
Xalanth let out a playful chuckle. "With me holding my beloveds tightly, reminding them how much i love them? Oddly enough yes. I guess I'm much of a charmer."
“That you are, and I’m not complaining.” Kah’lyn smiled warmly.
Xalanth smiled and gave her ear another playful nibble before losing his hands. Standing up, he helped his latest mate up.
Kah’lyn gave her new love a smile. “So where do we go from here? I’m obviously not doing a very good job with my techniques, will you teach me how to better defend myself?”
"Of course. What center would I make if I didn't teach you to defend yourself? " Xalanth gave her his own smile as he activated one of the training dummies. "We have a long way to go, but I'll be with you all the way."
