Synopsis:

Aboard the *Tov’Callii*, the Quath’Mar gather with Bajoran, Klingon, Andorian, Vulcan, and Starfleet representatives to mourn the dead from the battle of Omoga. Kas participates in the ritual for his slain stepbrother Tura, pouring the ceremonial liquid and sealing the coffin before sending it to the stars. Though praised for his actions in the fight, Kas feels only hollow grief, unable to accept his new role as a “hero.” The funeral blends cultures—chants to the Prophets, Klingon prayers, Andorian dirges, Earth’s “Minstrel Boy,” and a Vulcan lament whose beauty overwhelms Kas and finally breaks his composure. His parents comfort him as he cries openly for the first time. Later, Captain Keller of Starfleet offers compassion in the Quath’Mar custom, surprising Kas with his understanding. Finally, the young Vulcan woman offers condolences, leaving a lasting impression. As the coffins are launched into the stars, Kas realizes his faith in the Prophets has burned away with his brother’s remains. He resolves to “forget nothing,” carrying both grief and memory into the uncertain future as his culture now considers him an adult.
