Lieutenant Killian Jones awakens to the wreckage of the USS Phoenix, thrown clear of the escape pod and wounded. Smoke, fire, and chaos surround him as he searches desperately for his wife and son. He encounters Ensign Ari Garland, a terrified science officer, and begins coordinating survivors, instilling focus amid panic. Using authority and composure, he instructs Ari to help gather other survivors while he continues searching for his family. When he finally finds Evelyn, barely alive with a critical wound, the stakes of survival become painfully real, and the race to protect his family begins amid the uncertain dangers of the alien planet.
