* * * Deck 8: Armory, Intel, Security, etc. * * *
When the Marine team arrived to Deck 8, several security officers stood at posts throughout corridors, alert and attentive. The armory was well-guarded, and the Intelligence Officers remained inside their post inside the suite along with Commander Keel. They had been with the Captain when she ordered the Red Alert.
Fulvia had just finished donning her light recon armour and strapping her personal phaser to its side. If anyone tried breaking in her department would be ready.
Noha kept his eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary. The swarm of emotions assaulted his senses, but as much as he wanted to suppress his empathic abilities, maybe they could become useful.
Keel palmed the door to his department and popped his head out into the corridor. Red lights flashed at intervals, slower than the urgent beat of his heart. Not waiting for a weapon, he beckoned his subordinates. 'Let's meet up with the Marines - seal the suite, no one in or out of this place other than us, clear?'
Fulvia nodded as she activated the scramble feature of the intel files before following Keel out into the corridor.
Leading his motley squad at a trot, Keel had the Main Computer triangulate the location of the Marines and made a beeline for them. Raising his hand as he saw Clay, he hailed them. 'Heard there was a sweep happening. Thought I'd offer up this little group to help, McEntyre.'
Clay nods appreciatively. "Many thanks, Keel. Form up with us, we're going to take it slow, check everything before moving down to deck 9"
Josef stayed close to Clay as ordered. He was still unsure about this phase weaponry but the shape was still closer to a rifle, and that would have to do. At least he did not have to lug around so much ammunition anymore. Maybe they made these things as bullpups too ?
But, as for those present, he only seemed a little odd. By that that he wasn't really recognizable nor did he wear a comm badge. One person could, though, perhaps recognize the Man. Fulvia had met him before, when he slaughtered the Orion Syndicate on Freecloud after breaking out of his Cryo containment and nearly did the same with the away team she was in. Though unlike then, he did not wear his exo-suit nor his armor, and he also wasn't in the business of excessive screaming.
Trass grunted and flashed a smile at Josef. Jabbing Keel sharply in the ribs, he pointed him out. 'Hey, it's Cryo-guy. Blew away a whole load of goons; no need to ask when we were working on Freecloud.' He winked at Josef, 'definitely no better place to be on the Astrea if there's miscreants about, right Cryo-guy?' He rubbernecked and exclaimed at Fulvia, 'hey, you remember this guy?'
"I remember I did shoot him a few times," Fulvia replied calmly. "Stay behind us okay, Josef? Our armor has shields," she added.
Ah great, they knew him- but he didnt remember them. Thats fun.
"I got a name." he replied to Trass rather bluntly. "But I guess so. Though ill be honest, I remember none of it." he looked over to Fulvia as the woman replied. "Got it." once again, keeping it rather brief. Redirecting his eyes to their surroundings. Well one things for sure, he is on high alert AND checking his corners.
Noha positioned his weapon as he moved into a formation with the others. He was uncertain about the time-displaced Human, especially since he caused problems after the ambassador went down at the reception, but if Clay trusted him to be here, then Noha would too.
McKenzie's rifle was lowered, but with her finger still hovering near the trigger if required while she followed suit and moved into position with everyone else and behind Noha, and waited for the next order she received. She had her own misgivings and questions about what was going on, but there was a time and a place to air them out: later. "Ready when you are, Major," Eden confirmed with a nod.
* * * Deck 7 * * *
The Bajoran frowned at the PADD in his hands. He watched, huddled in one of the many maintenance rooms on board, as the two doctors left the holodeck. The one he had designated the primary target collapsed into the other, and he switched sensor feeds to tune into Main Sickbay when they transported. He barely flinched when the yellow alert went off, but he did become slightly hopeful when that damned Vulcan doctor positioned herself for a meld. As much as he hoped that the civilian on the Vindex would, as the Humans say, kill two birds with one stone, it unfortunately was not meant to be; Blackstone’s interference the first time made her more cautious now. The Bajoran scowled when the yellow alert changed to red, and he terminated the connection to the sensor feed. He was careful not to leave behind evidence of his presence because he knew the red alert would elevate the security countermeasures. He just had to deal with the telepaths to avoid detection, which is what his training was for.
He'd check in on the Sickbay situation later.
* * * Paddy's Loft * * *
Down in Paddy's Loft, Samuel was doing his best to calm the civilians who had gathered to stay out of the security and Marine forces as they worked to secure the ship. Standing behind the bar, he instructed his staff to start serving food and drink that had soothing properties. It may not be much, but, he would do whatever he could to help Remy by keeping her civilian charges as calm as possible.
A young couple quickly got up from their table and ran to the door, attempting to get to their children, who were still in school, but found the doors sealed per lockdown protocol. The wife began running her fingers through her hair in frustration while her husband called out, "What about our children. How can we find out about our children?"
Samuel moved over to the couple and attempted to console them. "The schools are reinforced emergency bunkers. So I do not doubt that your children are safe." He then directed them over to the computer interface on the bar. After entering his authorization codes, he allowed the use of the terminal. "Go ahead, contact the school."
The young mother looked at Samuel gratefully. Tears had started to well in her eyes, but she didn't let them fall. "Thank you," she nodded as she began to type in a message to the school.
A few others also had children at school, and after watching the brief commotion, approached the bar. No one was rude, but around a half a dozen voices spoke at once, requesting to use the terminal next or asking if there were other terminals available.
Samuel did his best to gently calm everyone. He let them know that this was the only console available and everyone would get a fair turn to speak quickly yo their children, so they could assuage the young one's fears. He then added that it would have to be brief, so as to keep the comm system open for official use in an emergency.
Once that was done, and a sense of nervous calm started to settle on the group, he resumed his job of providing food and drink to those who wanted it, doing what he could to calm them.
* * * Science Lab 6, Deck 9 * * *
Ensign Zera came out of one of the maintenance rooms and looked around, his wide eyes watching people rush by. It was Zera's first red alert, and no amount of preparation could prepare him for it. So he followed a group of people, but got disoriented pretty quickly. He eventually made it into one of the science labs, a hand on his chest to help him regulate his breathing. Science Lab 6 wasn't any less active than the corridor, but at least it was easier to stay oriented. He was well out of his territory, so he stayed by the wall and silently hoped that someone would come deal with the poor Ensign.
An Orion-hybrid with strawberry-blonde hair was monitoring a station in case she received orders from her chief. She'd put her current assignment aside to focus on what little information she was given access to. The klaxons made it hard to concentrate, and she wanted to be ready to move if she were to be lucky enough to get deployed.
When the doors hissed open she spun around defensively, on alert not knowing what the threat was, but half-expecting a security team. Once she noticed that it was another ensign who had slipped into the lab, she relaxed and stepped forward.
"Oh, hey. Why haven't I met you yet?" The Orion stepped forward. Her skin was green, but not as green as you would expect from most Orions, it was light enough to almost have peach undertones. Her red hair was silky and straight, pulled back into a ponytail.
"I'm Dani, Dani Harper. You alright?" She asked, noticing the ensign was breathing heavily. "Is it crazy out there?"
Blinking, Zera looked at the Orion. "Zera Leyar. I uh, I haven't been in a red alert before, and the Academy only prepares you so much," he said with an anxious little chuckle. "I don't really know what's going on, but people are moving with purpose and I just got a little turned around."
"Well, is there a station you should be reporting to?" Dani asked. "We're on lockdown, so you shouldn't be moving around unless you have a station to get to."
In the nature of a poor Ensign who left his brain in his quarters, Zera looked at Dani as if she had spoken a foreign language. "Station, right. So... so I should..." he pointed toward the doors he just came through, swallowing at the idea of going back into the chaos.
"Probably wait here," Dani replied with all of the patience a mother might give a young child. "If you have any other orders someone will comm you."
* * * Sickbay * * *
Ragnar approached the doors of Sickbay, motioning to either side for 2 of the marines with him to post up outside them for a moment while he checked in with the medical staff.
Pacioretty took the left side of the door without being told. Nobody needed to tell him. That was the thing about drills and real life. In a simulation, everybody always waits for someone else to act. In real life, it's sometimes important to be the one to take initiative.
His back from the bulkhead and it was reassuring. The rifle came up in the same motion his body always used.
Once they were moving, he used his security override to bypass the lockdown and stepped into sickbay; the doors immediately snapped shut with a hiss behind him. "Status report?"
"What's going on?" Ensign Reynolds, the charge nurse on duty demanded as the team of Marines and Security flooded the reception and triage area of Sickbay. She stepped forward, blocking the corridor to the surgical suite where doctors were currently working on a patient.
"Dr. Beckett triggered a yellow alert and the situation has developed since; we believe it is necessary to ensure medical personnel are secure. I plan on leaving a pair of marines outside the door to sickbay but I personally came to get a status update from Medical." Ragnar was very much no-nonsense and straight to the point as he spoke, even as he settled into an easy parade rest.
Patches scanned the room quickly, his rifle at the ready. The marine on his right shifted his weight and seemed to be gripping his weapon tightly. It was obvious to everybody he was on edge.
"Hey," he said quietly to him, "don't marry your trigger finger. She's not loyal."
The kid may have snorted but Patches was already moving to his left, carefully clearing another blindspot near Doctor Siv's office.
"I'm not sure I can let you into the operating theater," Reynolds stated firmly. "I can send a nurse to see if it's necessary.
"We will post some marines outside the theater doors and ensure they are secure. Bring any updates to me as you get them. We are going to sweep the medical department for trackers, listening devices, or anything else out of the norm...." Ragnar paused and looked over Reynolds "...at first opportunity I need the highest ranking Doctor on staff to go over crew activity with me."
Reynolds didn't blink. "The physicians on staff are in a procedure currently and cannot be disturbed. Inside the operating theater are: Doctors Siv, Blackstone, Beckett, T'Para, Nurses Iozhara, Dawes, Solae, and Nurse's Assistant Jayne."
As the Nurse was blockading the Marines from interrupting the medical procedure, yet still providing as much information as she was able to, Captain Johansen walked into Sickbay. The Marine contingent looked around for a security detail, surprised to see none.
"I need to speak with Dr. Beckett or Dr. Blackstone immediately," she demanded.
Ragnar offered a quick, relaxed salute though his body maintained its subtle tension. "Seems we are both here to wait, Captain." He nodded to Reynolds, leaving the explanation to her as he looked for a spot he could keep an eye on the entirety of Sickbay without being in the way. He motioned to two of the marines with him and sent them to guard the operating theater doors, watching with grim satisfaction as they shouldered their phaser rifles and vanished down the hall behind Reynolds.
Pacioretty lowered his rifle after clearing the final section of Sickbay and walked back toward Ragnar, Reynolds, finding Captain Johansen now speaking with them.
“We’re all clear here save for the operating theatre, Gunny,” he said to Ragnar, before giving a crisp salute to Remy.
The Captain raised her eyebrows at the Marine as she casually relieved him of his salute. She wasn't used to having Marines on board, and she had no intention of waiting. She was needed on the Bridge.
"Captain Johansen," Nurse Reynolds acknowledged Remy's presence warmly. "Dr. Beckett is expecting you. You are to go on back."
Without so much as a reaction the Captain swiftly made her way toward the operating theater, eager to get whatever information she could and get on her way.
