With Xalanth busy going about his investigation into her stalker problems, and a new security guard assigned to keep her safe, Kah’lyn had decided to go for a nice fitness swim in the holodeck at the end of her day. There was no doubt in her mind that her body was creating new life even though it was too soon to be picked up on her sickbay scan so she wanted to make sure she kept fit for both hers and her baby’s sake.
Getting changed in the changing room, she left her things in the old style locker and headed out to the pool. Her guard would be outside the door making sure no one interrupted her nice swim. At least that’s what she thought, but he had another idea.
He’d been planning this day for some time now, and he wasn’t going to let a change of assignment stop him from finally getting what he wanted. Little did they know he was already inside he’d gotten his hands on a nifty piece of tech years ago which came in handy to block an empath from sensing his presence, the guard would have no idea he was there especially when the internal sensors had a minor malfunction. It was all so well planned no one would know until it too late, she’d be dead and he’d have his well earned souvenirs. Then he’d move on to his next victim and start planning anew.
Kah’lyn smiled as she tapped her comm badge. “Kah’lyn to Xalanth. Just checking in before I go for a swim. The new guard you assigned is working out great, he’s outside the door so I feel a whole lot safer.”
" Okay, my love. Let me know if anything's wrong. " Xalanth replied, his yellow eyes looking over the reports that littered his desk. He wished he could get the gut feeling out of his body. Something was very wrong, but he wished he could work out......
The door slid open as in rushed Fulvia a pad in her hand. " It's Ageirud " she yelled in a tone that her mate needed to know she was deadly serious. The lizard was on his feet in seconds.
" Arkell just called in to Starfleet headquarters. Someone stole his data chip while he's been on a long-term leave of absence."
How the hell had he not guessed that Xalanth thought as he tap his comm badge. =^= Kah’lyn get out of there. =^= He said calmly as he grabbed a phaser and rushed towards the turbolift.
Kah’lyn was just about to get into the pool, hearing Xalanth’s voice she quickly picked up her things to head to the door when a man stepped out of the shadows.
“I’m afraid not Kah’lyn” He smiled a sickly, sweet smile. “It’s time, I’m afraid by the time they get here it’ll be too late…” he rushed forward aiming to grab her.
As she’d done with Xalanth in sparring Kah’lyn lunged to one side aiming for him to miss. She smiled as the ploy worked before a sudden grab on her ankle brought her down. She had no choice but to rotate her body twisting her leg as he still had hold of it, she brought her other foot up giving him a kick as she had to rotate back again to take the pressure off her trapped leg.
As he reeled from the kick his reaction was to let go, but it left Kah’lyn open as she got to her feet favouring her twisted ankle. He smiled as he gave her a solid push, the pool was just in range as she took an uncontrolled topple towards it, falling hard she caught her head on the pool edge landing face down in the water.
“Too easy” he smiled as he joined her in the pool, aiming to make sure that even if she awoke her head would remain under the water until her life ebbed away.
A flash of blinding light high above the pool proved him wrong as Xalanth did an emergency teleport. " Get away from her." he snarled as he landed in the water hard.
“I think not!” He smiled as Kah’lyn stirred, the water was already red near her head had sustained the wound hitting the side of the pool, now she was thrashing trying to fight him off to get a breath of air. “How long do you think she can hold her breath? I’m not letting go Dragonian!”
" Longer than you will, you sad little boy." Xalanth roared as he lunged forward. He was slower in the water, but that didn't matter, as all he could see was blind range. His fang knife was in his hand, and he drove it deep into the man's foot, who dropped Kah'lyn as he tried to lunge away.
Kah’lyn gasped for air, coughing as she tried to get the water out of her lungs. Seeing Xalanth she dragged herself to the steps at the side of the pool, slowly dragging herself out of the water before laying on the floor at the side of the pool. She had no energy to go any further.
In the pool the angry rage of his victim getting free set her attacker against Xalanth, all he could see was his prize being blocked and he wanted that prize. He lunged at Xalanth even though he was wounded himself.
A serial killer may have been a master of his own perverse art form, but Xalanth was a dragonian. He had been fighting ever since his egg had been placed in the desert as a distraction to protect his clan's incubator. Since then, he had been fighting for his life more times than he could remember. Yor, the klingons, the Borg and worse had thrown themselves against him, and all had been found wanting.
This thing, this killer of women and children, was nothing but dirt on the sole of his foot.
He caught the man's falling punch and, putting his whole strength into his hand, crushed the man's fingers as the killer's hand turned into a blob of blood and paste. The man's screams were music to his ears as he brought his head forward, smashing his skull with his head again and again.
Kah’lyn didn’t have the strength to get up, but she had to break her love out of his rage fuelled attack. “Xal…Xalan…Xalanth! Stop!!” She coughed. “He’s….not worth it!”
His mate's words cut through his skull, and the anger went through it like a hot knife through butter. He droped the wriggling wretch into the water and scurried towards the ladder. " Kah'lyn. " He gasped out as he grasped his latest mate." Stay with me."
Kah’lyn nodded with a wince as it hurt her head, she was also shivering from being wet. “I’m cold…”
" It's okay i'm here. " He said softly as he gripped her tightly. The door finally slid open as Fulvia and a security team burst through. "Medics!" yelled Fulvia as she sprinted over to her husband and sister wife.
Kah’lyn heard Fulvia’s voice, but was soon unconscious. At least now her ordeal was finally over, her stalker caught and she could rest at ease.
" Get her to sickbay now." Xalanth yelled to the two medical staff, who quickly moved to get her on a hover stretcher, which beamed to sickbay.
" Go be with her. " Fulvia said to the red lizard. Two of the security staff had fished the still quivering Ageirud out of the pool. " Patch that thing up and keep him under guard," she said calmly, her body screaming at her to slit his throat for what he'd tried to do to her sister-wife.
Jezra was in the main ward with T'Para, going through crew records for tomorrow's round of checkups, when the sound of a transport jerked her head up. Seeing the shape of a hover stretcher, two figures controlling the stretcher, and the vague outline of a Xalanth-shaped escort, she quickly abandoned the console. Once the transport finished, she quickly recognised Kah’lyn and instructed the medics to get her to biobed one. She was soaking wet, hair sticking to her scalp and parts of her face, and she could see the blood from the head injury staining the stretcher. Without prior context, it looked like she slipped in a pool and hit her head. "What happened?" She asked Xalanth as she followed the medics to the biobed.
" Her stalker attacked her. She hit her head hard on the side of the pool, and he tried to drown her. " Xalanth explained, the panic hiding behind his eyes clearly visible, though he did his best
The door slid open again as said stalker was brought in, strapped down onto one of the Fulvia, still aiming a phaser at his broken body.
Kah’lyn awoke with a cough, which rapidly turned into more coughing, as she struggled with the water that had gotten into her lungs thanks to her attempted drowning.
Jezra glanced toward the door when she heard it, then immediately focused back on Kah’lyn when she coughed. "Easy," she said, before instructing the medics to help her onto her side so she could clear her airway better. She supported her head the whole time. "Siv to Doctor Beckett, report to sickbay, no delay."
[Aye, Doctor. On my way.] Malcolm's Scottish accent responded back immediately.
Looking to T'Para, Jezra knew almost instantly where she wanted her. Given the situation, away from the culprit seemed best. "T'Para, start oxygen and work on clearing the airway. Watch for temperature changes, vomiting, and concussion symptoms. And try to keep her awake so the concussion doesn't cause complications." Jezra didn't like putting staff in charge of their own family members. She knew it wasn't an easy thing to ask of someone, which was why she summoned Beckett.
"On it." T'para calmly replied as she got to work. Picking up the oxygen mask, the hybrid looked at her sister-wife with concern in her eyes. "Sister, I know this will hurt, but this is going to have to go down your throat. " She said, gesturing to the mask's insertion pipe.
Kah’lyn nodded her understanding as she looked up at T’para. There was little other choice on the matter.
T'para carefully inserted the pipe, holding Kah'lyn hand as she did so. With that she began running a full scan to see what needed to be done.
The procedure hadn’t been nice, but Kah’lyn had weathered it nonetheless. She had a headache so closed her eyes to rest them from the lights.
T'para gently gripped her sister-wife's shoulder as she got to work. She had a concussion, which was nothing she couldn't deal with. " I need you to stay awake sister."
Kah’lyn opened her eyes again, if she needed to stay awake then she would do her best to do so, although she was tired.
Content that Kah’lyn was in good hands, Jezra then turned toward the other patient. Well, he certainly got what he asked for. Looking to Xalanth, she clocked his concern and offered a look of assurance, though it was brief as she refocused. "Computer, enable the following contingency: if the patient in biobed four vacates the bed without prior authorisation from a doctor on staff, erect a forcefield around biobed one. Authorisation Siv One Nine Nine Victor." When the computer chirped its confirmation, only then did she approach the other biobed, grabbing a tricorder along the way.
" I'd like to get a blood sample from him when you can. I have a feeling a few unsolved murders are going to be linked to this animal." Fulvia asked, though she still had her phaser aimed at the man. A chunk of what had been his hand fell from his ruined hand and dropped to the floor with a very unpleasant thunk.
"Once we get him stable," Jezra replied with a nod. Her eyes briefly glanced to the phaser; while the Dominion War had long desensitised Siv to the presence of a weapon in a medical setting, Jezra of course preferred less violent options. The gaze shifted to the wet slap of flesh hitting the ground, and through the faint grimace she gave a 'well, alrighty then' expression. Flipping open the tricorder, she began scanning his body to get a read on just what she was working with.
To say the man's body was a mess was an understatement. Apart from the crushed remains of his hand, the man's nose had been beaten into his skull by several heavy headbeats. His pelvis had been broken in half, and it was unlikely his ruined genitalia would ever work again. The final was the long cut in his foot, which still had Xalanth fang blade jutting out of it. From the scans, several major arteries had been broken, as was most of the muscle tissue in the area of the cut.
The more Jezra read the data, the less optimistic she was that he'd actually survive. She tapped her communicator again, "Siv to Dr. Blackstone. Report to the surgical suite, no delay."
"On the way" Alex' reply was short, curt. She could tell by the tone in Jezra's voice that there was work to be done.
Jezra then got to work to patch the arteries so the man wouldn't bleed out. The fang blade would be Alex's problem in surgery, so the Trill worked around it, sealing off what she could. Glancing up to Fulvia, she glanced at the weapon. "I appreciate your diligence, Lieutenant, however I don't think he's going anywhere. I would be surprised if he was even conscious at the moment."
Fulvia paused before finally holstering her phaser. " Sorry doc, you don't make it as a gladeatrix without being catuses around people that looked dead."
Jezra gave an appreciative glance. "I'll keep you nearby just in case." To Nurse Solae, she told him to get a unit of universal blood and to keep a second unit ready.
A few minutes later Alex sprinted through the door; wearing clothes meant for working out but she quickly stepped into the office she shared with Jezra and came back out in her Doctor's Whites; coming to the bedside table to examine everything. When she saw the dagger she looked to Xalanth. "Well; that explains why I have been summoned."
Malcolm was on Dr. Blackstone's heels, wearing his uniform pants and standard starfleet black t-shirt, his uniform jacked in his hands. He tossed the jacket to the side and saw both Blackstone and Siv.
"Where do you need me?" he asked.
By the time the two showed up, Jezra had made some progress on the unknown man. She'd picked up the chunk of hand that plopped onto the floor and put it into a limb stasis unit, which was a pale blue opaque box near the bed, and she was working to control the bleeding from what was left of the hand. "Malcolm, biobed one. Assist T'Para with Kah’lyn. Attempted drowning with a head injury."
Malcolm nodded and grabbed the scrub shirt that a medical technician had handed him and quickly pulled it over his head as he stepped quickly over to T'Para's charge.
Glancing to Alex, Jezra gave her a look that silently apologised for the way her workout turned out. Hopefully it would only be one set of life saving. "Multiple head injuries, broken nose, complex break in the pelvis, penetrating weapon lodged into fibular artery and damage to both tibial arteries, and a traumatic amputation of part of the right hand. I repaired the two damaged arteries but will need assistance with the third. He's also lost a lot of blood. I requested universal because I don't think there's enough time to type and cross." Her attention briefly went to Solae as he returned with the requested blood. "He's otherwise as ready as can be for surgery. If he needs to be moved, we must log authorisation first because a contingency is in place to protect his victim."
"Isolation would be best I think for the victim; but also... I am going to need an actual operating theater for this foot. Even then I can't promise he will walk proper again." Alex looked around the room; guessing at what had happened and shifted her gaze back to Jezra for a moment. "I take it this one attacked one of those attached to Xalanth? Judging by the blade anyway."
" Yes, he did." Xalanth said bitterly. " I can't believe I didn't work out; he was her stalker."
Jezra gave Xalanth a sympathetic look. She knew guilt when she saw it. "What matters is that he was stopped. I suggest you try and get some rest, Commander. Kah’lyn is in good hands, and you'll be notified of any updates."
Xalanth opened his mouth to say something, but a look from Fulvia made him nod. " Very well." he replied calmly.
Turning to Alex, she added, "he's ready to move. Because of the situation, I'd like Lieutenant Fulvia to remain close for our safety. I trust she will remain out of our way." She glanced at the readings above the biobed. "Computer, authorise removal of patient from biobed three to transport to the main operating theater. Doctor Jezra Siv."
The computer chirped, "authorisation logged."
Alex looked over Kah'lyn then back to Xalanth. "I am glad she is alright; you got there in time Xalanth." She then looked to her patient and glanced to his hand. "That hand is unsalvageable; it'd be best if we amputated while we are in theatre. Lieutenant Fulvia; if you will wait in the operating washroom where you can monitor without sacrificing the sterile space I am okay with you being back with us." She nodded to Jezra that she was ready for the patient to be transported.
Fulvia nodded. "Of course, Doctor." She said as she headed for the washroom.
With a nod, Jezra grabbed the stasis box. The hand was no longer useful, so at this point it would be analysed as part of the incident report before it was properly disposed of. "Computer, initiate a medical transport to the surgical bay. Siv, Blackstone, Fulvia, and the occupant of biobed three." The group then transported away in a shimmer of blue.
Malcolm scanned the biobed's readings on Kah'lyn as he approached. Dr. T'Para had started oxygen, and was focusing on her concussion, but her lungs were still showing signs that she was aspirating duing her breathing. He also noticed that her hair was wet and that there was water on and around the bed.
"Did she hit her head at the pool?" Malcolm asked as he approached. "She's got water on her lungs, I'm going to take care of that right quick," he said, moving straight for where the pulmonary aspirators were kept before approaching the patient.
He returned, placing the two small paddles on top of Kah'lyn's chest, and activated the sonic aspirator. It gave off a light blue glow and an almost inaudible hum as it ejected the water from her lungs.
Kah’lyn simply lay letting the medical staff do what they had to do, she was too tired to worry and really wanted to sleep although T’para had told her to stay awake.
" Yes, she did hit her head." T'para said, doing the wonders she could with her medical tools. She had her sister's wife's concussion almost sorted.
