Timeline: Mission Day 11, 1930 hours

Location: Sickbay, USS Astrea

Characters Present:

  • Brunel
  • Lt. Commander Nash Winters
  • Sara Winters
  • Alexandra “Alex” Winters
  • LtJG Eirly Andersen
  • Dr. Malcolm Beckett
  • Dr. Olivia Parks
  • Nurse Charlotte Dawes
  • Nurse Reynolds
Synopsis:

Brunel begins to regain consciousness, initially thinking of his mother. Nurse Dawes and Dr. Beckett assist with his awakening, while Nurse Reynolds returns his personal amulet. Brunel immediately signs for Sara, who joins him, offering comfort and reassurance. He reports pain in his head and a burning sensation on his skin, prompting administration of neurozine.

Nash and Alexandra are notified and arrive at Sickbay, joining Sara at Brunel’s bedside. Brunel begins communicating, signing “Mama” and “Papa” as he reconnects with the family he is learning to trust. Alex joins in, establishing a sibling bond, and Brunel reciprocates by signing “Sister…brother…family,” solidifying the new familial connection.

Dr. Beckett provides a detailed, yet cautious, diagnosis to Nash and Sara in a private consultation, explaining that Brunel’s genetic mutations contribute to immune deficiencies. While his prognosis remains uncertain, the doctors are optimistic due to his young age and the presence of supportive medical protocols.

Back at the bedside, Brunel is reassured by nurses and family alike, given water, and encouraged to rest. The chapter concludes with Brunel closing his eyes, silently praying to his ancestors and parents, acknowledging his new home with the Winters family while honoring his heritage.
