Eirly is separated from her crewmates and taken to a high chamber overlooking the mountains, concealed behind forcefield-projected camouflage. There she encounters Brandon, who reveals himself to be an interrogator working under orders to uncover the Astrea crew’s motives in Lhasa. He questions her about the Captain’s decision to leave the ship, the presence of Kasper Razka, and their ties to the Yohee Clan of the Quath’Mar. Eirly, struggling with waves of nausea and a suspicious taste in the water she is given, realizes too late that she may have ingested a truth serum. She tries to maintain her composure by offering partial truths and deflecting with humor, but Brandon notes her evasions and presses harder—suggesting he knows more about Johansen and Razka than he lets on. The scene leaves Eirly in a precarious position, aware that her thoughts and emotions may be vulnerable to Betazoid perception, while still trying to protect her Captain and the mission.
