After her interrogation, Eirly takes in the view of the mountains and tries to recover from the serum’s lingering effects. A young attendant brings the food she requested, but Brandon interrupts to announce Kas will be joining her. The Hybrid is wheeled in under the guidance of Corin, the Bajoran overseer, who notes his Quath’Mar trance state and returns his goggles. Once alone, Eirly encourages him to wake, finally rousing him with humor and concern.

Kas stretches out the stiffness from his body and reassures her that his auto-trance had protected him from harsher treatment. He refuses food or drink from their captors, citing cultural honor, and warns her to remain wary. Eirly admits she has already been drugged once, though the nausea has begun to pass. Despite captivity, the two share an exchange of trust: she worries she caused their mission through her mistake with the child’s diet, while Kas offers fatherly comfort and a shaman’s wisdom, reminding her that acts of love—no matter their cost—are what define them. He reveals more of his tattoos and his role as a seeker among his people, underscoring the bond of kinship between them even in hostile ground.
